DIVERSITY IN LIVING ORGANISMS
The vast variety of the living organisms and the vast diversity in the flora and fauna brings us to the need for classification. Classification is facilitated by a branch of science which deals with the arrangement and grouping of organisms called TAXONOMY. Carolus Linnaeus is called the father of taxonomy. The nomenclature involves giving each organism two names- Generic and Specific. The generic name or the name of the genus groups organisms showing similar features and the specific name specifies the name of each organism so that no other organism in the world has the same name combination.
