Writing enables us to:

In this type of writing, the information is given and with its help, an incomplete passage is to be completed.
The effective way to do it involves the following steps:
 
  • Read the given information and the incomplete passage.
  • Try to fit the inputs in the passage.
  • Fill the blanks with the suitable inputs.
  • Recheck the passage to edit out grammatical mistakes.


Short compositions:
This type of writing involves Notice writing, message writing, postcard writing, posters and pamphlets.

NOTICE:
Notices are written to attract attention to a particular event or information. It could be about:

 

  • An event
  • A programme
  • A function
  • A happening
  • An inauguration
  • Lost or found notice

  • A box should be drawn

MESSAGE:

A message is a short note, written to convey an urgent information usually in an informal way.

THE FOLLOWING FACTORS SHOULD BE KEPT IN MIND WHILE WRITING A MESSAGE: 

  • Draw a box
  • Write the word MESSAGE
  • Mention the date and time
  • Write the salutation
  • Give all the important information in brief like who called, at what time, for what purpose
  • for whom and whom to contact, in not more than 50 words 
  • Writer’s name or signature

POSTCARD:

A postcard is a brief, informal letter. Due to lack of space, only important points are mentioned. The outline is given.

THE FACTORS TO BE KEPT IN MIND WHILE WRITING A POSTCARD ARE:

 
  • The sender’s address has to be short, only mention the place
  • Write the date
  • The salutation 
  • The introduction needs to be brief, just one or two sentences
  • The main content should contain all the important information in brief 
  • The conclusion should also be brief just one or two sentences
  • Sender’s name 
  • All this should NOT exceed 100 words


 
POSTERS AND PAMPHLETS:

These are created to attract attention towards something. It can be a social cause or an event, or even a wanted poster. They have to be catchy and precise. The language should be convincing and it should be impersonal, for the general public. It has no specific format but the word POSTER should be mentioned and the message should be put in such a manner that it is able to convey the message effectively.

REPORT WRITING:

This type of writing is done after a thorough study of a particular happening. This involves a news paper report, a letter report or a simple report made to inform your superior about your work.

  • A suitable headline
  • A brief explanation of the headline
  • Date
  • Place
  • By (name or correspondent of a newspaper)
